Being Present
Yesterday I had the privilege of being on a Black Entrepreneur Panel for the kids at Potomac Job Corps for Black History Month! It is always a pleasure to share my story in business and inspiring the youth to pursue their dreams and aspirations. Hearing their questions and how eager they were to “jump out” into entrepreneurship is a reward in itself because you can feel your impact almost instantly answering the questions that may have had them feeling incapable or self conscious. Just being present in the youth’s lives is a significant experience, I remember my career days as a kid and those people shaped how I thought about “the grown up world” and what I wanted or didn’t want out of life at a young age. Seeing someone who looks like me, talks like me, dresses like me, doing what I want to do and successful is a powerful image. Seeing things come full circle with me now guiding kids into careers is a sublime feeling. Proud to be a visual of success for the youth and our future. The more classes Ive been able to speak to the more I begin to connect with that inner child within me that fuels my creativity. This type of community outreach is the work I would like to continue to do throughout the year if possible, so if you are a teacher in need of career day guests hit me up. Thanks again Lauren for the invite!
