Black Fashion History: Street Couture

The inventor of Streetwear is a black man.

Willi Smith of Williwear invented Streetwear merging menswear silhouettes with womenswear for ready to wear lines in the 80s. He would pass away to aids before seeing his idea blossom into the multibillion dollar industry of Streetwear fashion. I’ve studied fashion twenty years and never heard of him before now, and it has me wondering who else have I never heard of? I know of Patrick Kelly but as far as black designers there’s got to be more right?!
