“LEGENDS”
The title “Legend” gets thrown around a lot these days, I’m guilty of it calling myself a living legend. But to me few really meet that standard of excellence. I call myself a living legend because I know the full distance I came from where I was in my youth accomplishing goals to where I am now still adding to my legacy. Self made, got it out the mud and made something out of myself when it was frowned upon to drop out of school, quit your job, and start a business. The adversity of not following the crowd and the courage to stand alone is something not many can handle. Your elevation sometimes requires separation from everything you thought you wanted, only to be given the freedom to want more for yourself, and to rely on yourself to do so, is a mental breakthrough I wish everyone could experience. That feeling of going “Legend” as I call it. Nipsey Hussle, Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, as recent as Young DOLPH, and now Virgil Abloh all went Legend for the short moment they were here on this earth with us. Showing kids like me anything is possible! Virgil especially because he went legend in such little time but did so much in so many fields of “ART”. First Black Fashion designer at the illustrious LVMH, countless Classic Album covers, endless fashion trends, iconic shoes, and tremendous influence since his introduction with Pyrex, then Off-White, and eventually Louis Vuitton. Virgil’s death literally shocked the world yesterday as he battled cancer privately for the past couple years. Virgil inspired the hell out of me creatively. He literally ran the world creatively for the past 5-7 years. Had the sneaker game in a choke hold with his “the ten” Jordan collaboration and Off-White Dunks release. Ushered in this DIY custom creator era we’re currently lost in. Created so many nuanced everyday items to be coveted grail pieces, like the way the Off-White construction belt had a hold on the world 5 years ago was insane. Quotation marks everywhere and plastic tags hanging off shoes meant you were apart of the culture and Virgil was the puppet master behind it all. I aspire to be as influential and creative while pushing the culture forward by just being myself. Virgil taught me it was possible and attainable, just gotta do the work.
RIP
